Ternion Academy

Kodai No Bushido of Santa Clara, California came into being as Ternion Academy of Martial Arts.

Ternion Academy, devoted to continuing the tradition of Danzan-Ryu jujitsu, was originally founded by Vern and Tanya Brekke in Chico, California. In the 1980's, Vern and Tanya moved to Santa Clara, California, where the school re-opened.

In April 1995, having decided to move to Bozeman, Montana, the Brekkes enlisted Senseis Matt and Nancy Bigham to assume the responsibilities of schoolheads for Ternion Academy.

Then in the middle of the great El Nino winter of '98, Vern was inspired to start a new Danzan-Ryu dojo in Bozeman. He asked Matt and Nancy if they would consider letting them use his old dojo name They graciously agreed, so on February 27, 1998, Vern Brekke was elected President of Ternion Academy, Tanya Brekke also rejoined the board of directors, and Ternion Academy's board voted to move the dojo to Montana.

Classes at the Santa Clara dojo were uninterrupted - for this was a change in name alone. Kodai No Bushido continues the tradition teaching Danzan-Ryu Jujitsu while a new dojo is born with an old name. Incidentally, Kodai No Bushido is literally an old name, Kodai mean old or ancient.
